Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in talks with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif on Monday, December 30, will discuss the situation around the Iranian nuclear deal, Syria, the Persian Gulf and the cooperation of the two countries in the energy sector, the Russian Foreign Ministry commented.
“It is planned to discuss a wide range of issues of Russian-Iranian cooperation, including trade, economic and energy cooperation, with emphasis on the implementation of relevant bilateral projects. Particular attention will be paid to international topics, including the situation around the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action for the Iranian Nuclear Program and the Syrian settlement, the situation in the Persian Gulf and other regional issues”, – the Ministry said.
In anticipation of the visit to Moscow by the head of the Iranian foreign affairs agency, the Russian Foreign Ministry noted that Russian-Iranian relations are based on the principles of mutual respect and are not subject to political conditions. The trade and economic interaction of the Russian Federation and Iran is steadily increasing despite US sanctions.
“Over the nine months of 2019, Russian-Iranian trade not only did not decrease, as most of the partners in the specified country, but also increased by 25.3% to 1.5 billion US dollars. We are determined to help increase this figure”, – the Russian ministry emphasized .
