Expert comments on teachings of Iran, Russia and China in the Indian Ocean

Joint naval exercises in the northern Indian Ocean will not result in a coalition of three countries, said Iranian expert on international affairs and geopolitics Bahram Amirahmadian.

According to him, the purpose of these exercises is the desire of the three countries to ensure the safety of shipping in the region, on which the transit of energy resources to other countries depends.
China’s participation, he said, is mainly due to the country’s concern for the security status of the seas and bays of the northern ocean, since the bulk of the energy resources the country needs comes through this region.

“It must be understood that China will not participate in any coalition… and is not interested in building coalitions with other countries”, – the expert said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

According to Amirakhmadian, the participation of Russia can be seen as a kind of willingness to demonstrate that Moscow can coordinate with Iran in countering the unilateral approaches of the United States in foreign policy, although the Russian Federation is more inclined to build alliances to solve various problems.

In addition, he indicated Iran’s position on the security of this region, which concludes that security in the Indian Ocean (the Persian and Oman gulfs, as well as the Strait of Hormuz connecting them) should be ensured without the presence of foreign forces in the region.
“In this regard, Iran is interested in ensuring the safety of ship traffic with regional countries, in particular with Saudi Arabia (at present, the diplomatic relations of Tehran and Riyadh are broken – Ed.), as well as with the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council “the Iranian expert said.

The joint maneuvers of the naval forces of Iran, Russia and China under the name “Marine Safety Belt” started on Friday in the northern Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Oman and will last until December 30.
