Washington’s plans to put pressure on Hezbollah through sanctions and intervention in protest movements did not produce the expected effect, Russian Ambassador to Lebanon Alexander Zasypkin told.
“In the wake of the campaign of pressure on Iran and its ally, Hezbollah, the US has recently been increasingly active on the intra-Lebanese situation. They have adopted financial sanctions under the banner of fighting Hezbollah, although it has no accounts in Lebanese banks. They tried to influence the protest movement, reaching the allegations that it was directed against Hezbollah, but it turned out that in this atmosphere the banking system of Lebanon, which was considered reliable and was completely controlled by the US Treasury, suddenly lost to llar cash. The population and the economy suffered. At the same time, Hezbollah and its allies maintained a strong position, American pressure didn’t work in this regard, “Zasypkin said.
