Idlib is on fire again – thousands of Syrians flee

A fierce confrontation flared up again in the Idlib de-escalation zone. The fighting between jihadists and units of the Syrian Arab army forced civilians to leave their homes. According to Al Jazeera TV channel, about 18 thousand civilians left the region over the past day. They advanced towards the Syrian-Turkish border.

The escalation of the conflict was caused by attacks by militants of the terrorist groups “Hayat Tahrir al-Sham”*, “Ansar at-Tauhid”* and “Khurras ad-Din”*. The attacks occurred on Friday night. Government forces managed to repel the blow, but as a result of the confrontation, 17 servicemen were killed, 42 were injured.

Following this, the Syrian Arab army went on the offensive, displacing the militants. According to the latest data, during the operation it was already possible to more than ten settlements in the south-eastern part of Idlib province from the terrorists. Troops advance towards the city of Maaret Nuuman. The main striking force is the 25th division, consisting of fighters of the elite unit of the Tiger Force. In addition, the T-90 tank, which was put into service by the SAA from Russia, was involved in the battles.
