EU commented on US threats to impose duties on France

The EU took note of US threats to impose duties in response to the French “digital” tax, intends to coordinate with France regarding further steps, an EC representative told reporters on Tuesday.

Earlier in the report of the US trade representative, it was stated that France pursues a discriminatory policy against digital American companies, in response to this, the United States may impose duties at a rate of up to 100% on French goods worth up to $ 2.4 billion. The draft measures against France, which the US is talking about, are unacceptable, if they are introduced, the EU is ready to give a “strong answer”,  –  said French Minister of Economics and Finance Bruno Le Mer.

“As for the US statements regarding the French digital tax, we have taken note of this. In this, as well as other trade issues, the EU will act and react as one. The EU will remain united. We are closely coordinating with the French authorities regarding further steps”,  – said EU spokesman Daniel Rosario.
According to him, the EC “remains committed to finding a stable, sustainable and global solution to the taxation of the digital sphere.” “We are working with international partners to achieve this”, –  he said, urging the United States to dialogue to resolve contentious issues.
