Hungary ready to start discussion with Gazprom on new gas agreement

Hungary is ready to start negotiations with Gazprom on a new long-term agreement on gas supplies, said the Minister of Foreign Economic Relations and Foreign Affairs of the country Peter Siyyarto following a meeting with representatives of a Russian gas holding.

“It is in our best interests to ensure long-term, predictable and reliable cooperation with Gazprom on long-term and reliable gas supplies to Hungary. And we are ready to start negotiations with another Gazprom management on another long-term gas supply agreement”, –  the Hungarian agency quoted Siyyarto as saying MTI.

According to Gazprom Export’s website, there are currently two contracts between the company and Hungarian Panrusgaz until the end of 2019 and two until the end of 2021. Under these contracts, natural gas is exported in two directions – through Beregovo points on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border and Baumgarten on the Slovak-Austrian border.

Gazprom previously reported that the company’s gas exports to Hungary in the first three quarters of the year amounted to 9.3 billion cubic meters, exceeding the total supply for 2018 by 22%.
