French President Emmanuel Macron is ready to abandon the official position of NATO and consider the proposal of Russian President Vladimir Putin to introduce a moratorium on the deployment of medium and shorter-range missiles in Europe, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reports.
It is noted that the French leader said this in a letter to Putin.
Macron said in a letter that the Kremlin’s proposal deserves a “thorough study.” To this end, he offers bilateral and multilateral discussions with all states on this issue.
NATO members have so far rejected the Russian proposal. Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has repeatedly described the moratorium as “impossible.”
