Syria will raise a question with the United Nations regarding the theft of Syrian oil and demand compensation from the United States, said Arab President Bashar Assad in an interview with RIA Novosti and the Russia 24 television channel.
At the same time, he described the UN as “a semi-state ruled by gangs based on the principle of force”.
“Of course, <…> I, you and many people in the world know that the UN does not exist, because there is no international law. We now live in a world similar to a forest, it is now closer to the world before World War II, and not after it. Therefore, we will send complaints – but they will remain on the shelves”, – the Syrian leader added.
About 90% of Syrian oil production is concentrated on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River, which was formerly the stronghold and main source of income for the ISIS* terrorists, and now it is mainly controlled by the US allied Kurdish units of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
Pentagon spokesman Rat Hoffman assured that the profits from Syrian oil go to SDF, and the Head of the department Mark Esper said that the United States will protect the fields and respond by force to attempts to seize them.
Official Damascus does not recognize the autonomous administration in northeastern Syria and their military wing SDF, and sees US actions as embezzlement.
Moscow has repeatedly stated that steps taken by Washington impede a settlement and create an “additional irritant”. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also noted that the United States seeks to separate the territories on the eastern bank of the Euphrates and create a quasi-state there. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the United States receives more than $ 30 million a month from oil production in Syria.
