Israel imposes a naval blockade of the Gaza Strip, which means a ban on coastal fishing, after shelling Israeli territory from Gaza, told chairman of the Palestinian Fisheries Association Zachary Baker.
According to Baker, “the Israeli side informed the Palestinian Fisheries Association of the closure of the sea for fishermen before further notice”.
The Israeli side allowed fishing along the coast of the Gaza Strip up to 6 to 9 nautical miles (11.1 to 16.6 kilometers).
The largest exacerbation in recent months at the borders of the Palestinian enclave occurred after the Israeli Air Force liquidated the commander of the Islamic Jihad in Gaza, Bahi Abu al-Ata. Israel holds it responsible for hundreds of terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians and the military.
On Tuesday, Israeli territory was subjected to massive rocket fire from Gaza. Fifty missile launches from Gaza were recorded by the Israeli military in the morning, 20 of which were intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system. The shelling continued later. Missile fire warning systems have been activated in the cities of the south and center of the country, including such large cities as Tel Aviv, Modiin, Holon, Ashkelon and Rishon Lezion.
