French President Emmanuel Macron said that NATO has a progressing “brain death” going on. That was a strong, vivid statement.
In an interview published on Thursday, Macron noted the lack of coordination between Europe and the USA and unilateral actions in Syria by the key member of Turkey.
“What we are experiencing now is the death of NATO’s brain”, – Macron said in an interview with The Economist.
“You have no coordination of strategic decision-making between the USA and its NATO allies. You have uncoordinated aggressive actions by another NATO ally, Turkey, in an area where our interests are at risk”, – he added, according to an English transcript published by The Economist.
Macron’s comments questioning NATO’s effectiveness threaten to send shock waves through the alliance in anticipation of next month’s summit with Britain.
