French police start clearing and evacuating temporary migrant camps in Paris

On Thursday morning, the French police carry out an operation on evacuation of migrants from two camps – in the north-east of Paris and in the suburbs of the capital Saint-Denis, according to France Bleu Paris radio station.

The evacuation operation began at about 6.00 local time (8.00 Moscow time). About 600 police officers arrived at the scene. Migrants were placed on buses and transported to refugee reception centers and 15 gymnasiums in the metropolitan area. The shelter is primarily intended for families with women and children, the number of whom is at least 250.

According to the police, as follows from a document posted on Twitter, there were from 400 to 500 people in the camp in Saint-Denis, and 888 people in the north-east of Paris.

Law enforcement officials said that in the place of residence of migrants “sanitary situation” has worsened and the criminal situation has worsened as well.

BFMTV clarifies that migrants come from Somalia, Afghanistan, Eritrea and Chad, who have been living in camps for several months.
