Protesters in southern Iraq set fire to party offices

Participants in mass protests in the city of al-Nasyriya (the capital of the province of Di-Kar) in southern Iraq set fire to the offices of several parties, demanding that the authorities pay attention to the social problems of the population, the guards used firearms, the Iraqi news agency WAID reported.

On Saturday, popular protests demanding the resignation of the government and better life were resumed in Baghdad and other Iraqi cities, despite calls from the authorities for negotiations and curfews in separate areas. The security forces used firearms to disperse.
It was reported that at least five protesters died in the northeast of the capital, another demonstrator died in the city of al-Diva. Several dozen people were injured.

Earlier on Saturday, Iraqi human rights activists reported that the total number of victims of protests lasting since October 1 reached 100, about 4 thousand people were injured.
Since October 1, anti-government rallies have been held in Iraq, which began with calls to go out, distributed on social networks, with demands to strengthen the fight against corruption, reduce unemployment, and improve the work of public utilities. These protests were the first since the appointment of the Adele Abdel Mahdi government a year ago. Not a single party or political leader claimed to be behind these protests. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights demanded an immediate and open investigation into the deaths of peaceful demonstrators in Iraq.
