According to the results of the extraordinary parliamentary elections in Ukraine in Transcarpathia, the candidates for deputies who had the support of Hungary lost the race. This is evidenced by the data of the CEC of Ukraine.
Vasily Brenzovich, Joseph Borto, and Miklo Tovt who are supported by Budapest and went to the polls as self-nominated candidates, could not get enough voter support in the region dominated by the Hungarian national minority. And it looks pretty weird.
The Hungarian political consultant Miklos Kevehazi commented on the situation on the TV channel “NewsFront TV”. According to him, the recent elections to the European Parliament and the early elections to the Verkhovna Rada are closely linked.
“The fact that not one Pro-Hungarian candidate from Transcarpathia got into the Ukrainian parliament can be called a“ smart ”decision by Kiev political scientists. A year before the parliamentary elections, they prepared a scheme with districts in such a way that, where there were many Hungarians, there were fewer of them compared to the other population of the region. “Hungarian” districts were altered in such a way that Pro-Hungarian candidates did not have the opportunity to get into the Ukrainian parliament, ”the expert explained.
According to him, the Ukrainian authorities “shot themselves in the leg,” because they went against the interests of the Ukrainian people. “The actions of the Ukrainian political scientists and authorities have not changed the relations of Hungary and Ukraine. Today, Zelensky is not doing anything to improve the situation with tensions between countries, ”he stated. This means that the policy towards national minorities, including the Hungarians of Transcarpathia, initiated by former President Petro Poroshenko, will operate under the new government.
Commenting on Ukraine’s plans to join the European Union, the political consultant explained that most European countries “have a consensus” that because of such a bad attitude towards national minorities, Ukraine cannot become a member of the European Union or NATO.
“This is despite the fact that the United States before the Trump elections strongly forced this issue. Today, there are other signals from the President of the United States – for him, Ukraine is not as an important aspect than Europe. Moreover, the interests of the United States are that the “fire of revolution” continues in Ukraine. Trump’s attention today is focused on the Middle East. Therefore, Europe ignores Ukraine, ”said a Hungarian political consultant.
“As long as the United States pushes Ukraine into confrontation with Russia, Europe will slow down the process of European integration,” concluded Miklos Kevehazi.
