France: Yellow Vests resume protests after EU elections

The ‘Yellow Vest’ protest movement returned to Paris for the 29th consecutive week on Saturday, with a special focus on police violence and President Emmanuel Macron’s economic reforms.

The group met at Place Denfert-Rochereau before marching to Place de la Nation, chanting and waving signs.

Turnout was the lowest for six months, according to figures from the French Interior Ministry, with only 1,500 protesters in Paris and 10,000 nationwide.

The grassroots movement could call on 300,000 people at its peak in late 2018.
