Saudi ship meets protest at Santander after failed French arms shipment

A Saudi cargo vessel was met with a protest as it arrived at the port of Santander on Monday, after it had failed to load a planned shipment of arms in France’s Le Havre Port on May 9 due to protests.

The French Tricolour was projected on the Bahri-Yanbul’s side from a small boat as the cargo ship made its way to the northern Spanish harbour.

The vessel left Le Havre without its arms cargo last Thursday, after a French-based human rights group blocked the loading of weapons into the ship to prevent them from being used in the Yemen conflict, thus breaching an international arms treaty.
