The European Union should not make trade deals with countries that have withdrawn from the Paris Climate Agreement.
This was stated by Natalie Loiseau, who previously held the post of Minister Delegate for European Affairs at the French Foreign Ministry, and now a candidate for deputy of the European Parliament.
Thus, she urged the EU to withdraw from the trade agreement with the United States, which, on June 1, 2017, with the decision of Donald Trump, withdrew from the Paris Agreement.
“We will not sign a trade agreement with a country that has withdrawn from the Paris climate agreement. It’s impossible. There will be no agreement with the United States until they return to the Paris Agreement,” Loiseau said, expressing her position on the Transatlantic Free Trade Agreement.
According to her, the same practice should be applied to Brazil, if it eventually also leaves the Paris Climate Agreement.
The Transatlantic Free Trade Agreement (TAFTA) is a draft trade agreement whose goal is to create the largest free trade area in history that covers more than 45% of global GDP.
