Over $30 million in property damages in a single weekend of “Yellow Vests” protests

The amount of losses from damage to the insured property during the protests of “Yellow vests” in France over the past weekend increased by 15% to 200 million euros (227 million dollars).

Claims in a statement French Finance Minister Bruno Le Mare.

On Monday, the French Insurance Federation (FFA) reported losses of 170 million euros (192.9 million dollars), but this figure did not include the losses caused by the protests on March 16, which were accompanied by serious turmoil in the country.

The newspaper Figaro reported that Bruno Le Mayr announced during hearings in the country’s parliament that the total losses, including from the Saturday riots, amounted to 200 million euros ($ 227 million).

A wave of rallies “Yellow vests”, named after the mandatory attribute of French drivers, swept France in mid-November last year. The protests were marked by violence and social unrest.

While the French government eventually abandoned plans to raise taxes on fuel, which primarily caused rallies, and introduced other measures to improve the socio-economic situation of the country, the protests continued and turned into a wider movement against the policy of Emmanuel Macron.
