Large-scale protests erupted in France on 17 November 2018 in the wake of the government’s decision to raise fuel prices and increase fuel taxes. Even though the French authorities later scrapped their plans, the yellow vest protesters, dissatisfied with the government’s social policies, have continued to rally across the country.
The yellow vests are rallying for the fourteenth straight weekend in Paris and other major French cities on 16 February.
The demonstrations are often accompanied by violent clashes between protesters and police.
According to French TV channel LCI, about 1,300 police officers, gendarmes, and firefighters have been injured since the movement launched.
