France: Thousands rally for better social protection in Paris

Several labour unions united thousands of people for a protest-strike in Paris on Friday, demanding better social protection, higher pensions and salaries.

One of the protesters Kamal Emrieou said: “we are in war against poverty, misery and selfishness. This is a national movement that wants to fight against these diseases which are poverty and misery. So that’s why the president has to understand that if he’s really the chief he has to fight against this”.

The strike, which was called by the General Confederation of Labour (CGT), brought together students, workers and pensioners who marched from the Place de la Republique to the Place de la Nation, chanting and holding banners.
