France: Students in Toulouse continue protest against Macron’s education reform

French secondary school protests continued in the French city of Toulouse on Tuesday, as students joined in with the ‘yellow vests’ demonstrations, which have been hitting the country since weeks.

Almost 57 people were injured while demonstrating since Sunday, while on Tuesday various incidents were reported across the country of demonstrators setting buildings on fire, and of violent clashes with police.

High school students are protesting French President Emmanuel Macron’s government’s recent education reforms.

This aims to orientate students toward specific degrees sooner and to eliminate the three broad subject choices, namely science, literature or social sciences, as well as to modify the criteria for the BAC grade [academic qualification to pursue university studies in France].
