Germany and France do not consider it necessary to tighten sanctions against Russia because of the incident in the Kerch Strait. This was reported on Wednesday by the newspaper Die Welt.
According to it, at a secret meeting of European diplomats in Brussels, both countries called for the need to develop “confidence-building measures.” As the newspaper notes, sanctions do not apply to this.
On November 25, three ships of the Naval Forces of Ukraine violated the procedure for the passage of warships through the territorial sea of the Russian Federation when traveling from the Black Sea to the Sea of Azov. For their forced stopping in the Kerch Strait, weapons were used, three servicemen of the Ukrainian Navy received minor injuries and received medical assistance. The ships were detained and taken to Kerch, a criminal case was opened on the fact of violation of the state border of the Russian Federation.
The Russian side called the incident a provocation, the Ukrainian authorities initiated the imposition of martial law, and the EU and NATO called for a de-escalation of the situation.
