France: Students, teachers march on Paris over Macron’s school reforms

Students and teachers marched through the streets of Paris on Monday against the French government planned educational reforms.

The unions that called for the protest have criticised the series of measures proposed by French Education Minister Jean-Michel Blanquer, which they see as an attack on the public education system and a potential cause of job cuts.

French President Emmanuel Macron has previously said that he plans on ‘changing everything, from kindergarten to university’, which includes school leaving exams, class sizes and foreign language education.

The plans are expected to be submitted to Parliament next January in order to be effective from September 2019.
