Ukrainian nationalists left a “message” to a neighboring country, desecrating a monument of “Ukrainian-Hungarian friendship”.
The cross on Mount Kerek above Berehove was established in 2001 on the occasion of the 2000th anniversary of the Nativity of Christ on the day of Saints Peter and Paul.
Now the monument, which was a symbol of the unity of the two peoples, is mutilated by nationalist symbols. At the cross the radicals depicted the black and red flag of the OUN-UPA, and on the walls of the monument wrote the notorious words “Glory to Ukraine – Glory to Heroes”.
It should be noted that this is not the first attack of nationalists, demonstrating their attitude to the attempts of Budapest to protect Transcarpathian Hungarians. Earlier, at the Hungarian embassy in Kiev radicals from the “Kiev Volunteer Hundreds” burned the effigy of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, which soon turned into indignation among the Hungarians, who called for a referendum in the Transcarpathia on the “Crimean scenario.”
Attempts by the two countries to resolve the crisis at the moment have led to nothing. So, following the results of the meeting of the foreign ministers of Hungary and Ukraine, the Ukrainian minister stated that the law on education will not change in the interests of national minorities. In turn, the head of the Hungarian diplomatic mission noted that Budapest will continue to block Ukraine’s cooperation with NATO .
