At least 100 Palestinians were injured, according to Gazan medical officials, during the ‘March of Return’ demonstrations at the Gaza border fence on Friday. Israeli forces also killed a nurse who was reportedly helping a wounded protester
People were seen being carried away on stretchers under tear gas and burning-tyre smoke as clashes between Palestinian demonstrators and Israeli army intensified.
Spokesperson for the Palestinian Health Ministry Ashraf al-Qudra, identified the victim as 21-year old woman Razan al-Najjar. She was shot in the chest while wearing the white medical staff uniform.
The 10-week long series of ralles, known as the ‘Great March of Return’, began on March 30 as a demand for Palestinians’ right of return to land now found in Israeli territory.
The demonstrations reached their peak on May 14, when at least sixty Palestinians were killed as the US opened its new embassy in Jerusalem.
