Hungary sent a letter to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg with the initiative to review the support programs for the Ukrainian alliance. This is on Friday, May 25, reports European Pravda.
The appeal of Budapest states that “the Ukrainian state has weakened to such an extent that it is unable to fulfill its basic obligations, including ensuring the rule of law and effective economic, social and political governance.” A document entitled “Memorandum: The Initiative for the Establishment of a New NATO Policy towards Ukraine” was confirmed by the representatives of the European Pravda Alliance at NATO Headquarters.
The document was approved at a meeting of the Hungarian government, headed by Prime Minister Viktor Orban on May 18. “The main idea promoted by the government of Orban: the reform of Ukraine has failed,” the newspaper notes.
The document also notes that “a state that is already unstable becomes increasingly vulnerable to external and internal impacts. “It’s got to the point that Ukraine is already becoming a challenge to the security of its neighbors, including Hungary,” Budapest believes.
At the same time, Hungary is ready to give up this position if Kiev reconsiders the provision of the Law on Education, adopted in 2017, which effectively prohibits teaching in schools in all languages except Ukrainian. It was this step on the part of Kiev that triggered a stormy reaction from Budapest.
At the same time, sources say that the NATO representative said that the alliance has no plans to revise its policy towards Ukraine.
