US blocks statement on Gaza at UNSC

The United States blocked the adoption of a draft of the UN Security Council statement calling for an independent investigation into the deaths of people in the Gaza Strip.

In a statement, the Security Council “expresses its indignation and mourning over the killing of Palestinian citizens,” calling for “an independent and transparent investigation of these actions to bring those responsible to justice,” the Associated Press reports.

The day before, Turkey demanded the convocation of the United Nations Security Council in connection with the events in the Gaza Strip, where more than 50 Palestinians were killed in the clashes between the protesting local residents and Israeli military, and more than 2.4 thousand people were injured.
