Several arrested at demonstration against Emmanuel Macron’s reforms

Police made several arrests at a union-led protest in Paris on Thursday afternoon. Unions in France are demonstrating against proposed labour reform from the government of French President Emmanuel Macron.

Macron is seeking to implement sweeping changes to publicly-owned railway company SNCF, including ending its monopoly and changing contractual terms for employees.

Union leaders – including from the influential confederation CGT – are calling for a widening of the strike. The ultimate goal is a ‘convergence of struggles,’ much like in 1968 or more recently in 1995.
