France threatens with ‘more airstrikes if Assad uses chemical weapons’

French President Emmanuel Macron

Syria is believed to no longer be able to produce chemical weapons but if it were to use them again, then France and its allies will not hesitate to conduct further airstrikes, Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said in an interview with France Info.

”It is clear to (Syrian president Bashar Al-Assad, Ed.) Assad that, were he to pass the red line again, the response would be the same,” Le Drian said, adding that ”the issue is chemical weapons. We have not declared war on Assad or his allies. We have simply acted so that chemical weapons are not used again.”
