The anti-terror operation comes several days after France has adopted tougher security laws to put an end to the emergency situation that had been in place since November 2015 terror attacks in Paris.
French police have reportedly started an anti-terror raid in the Alpes-Maritimes region.
While there have been no details provided by officials shedding light on the exact reason for the operation in southern France, which came a week following the adoption of a tougher security legislation, replacing the emergency situation that had been in place for years, media reports suggested the raid targeted alleged terrorist cells.
According to French Interior Minister Gerard Collomb, while the terrorist threat in France “remains serious,” the law is aiming to “strenghten the internal security and fight against terrorism.”
