Hungary: Emergency Regime Continues

The Hungarian government decided to extend the state of emergency for another six months because of the influx of migrants, the government spokesman Zoltan Kovacs told the Hungarian National Agency.

“On the recommendation of Interior Minister Sandor Pinter, the government decided to extend the state of emergency due to mass immigration for six months until March 7, 2018,” Kovacs said.

“The threat of terrorism in Europe has increased as a result of mass immigration, and accordingly strict border control remains necessary in the interests of security,” Kovacs added.

The Hungarian government built fences on the borders with Serbia and Croatia. On the border, the state of emergency was declared.
