Putin Urges Media to Provide Unbiased Coverage of Global Events

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday welcomed the participants of the 19th World Congress of Russian Press and stressed the special responsibility of the media to provide an honest and unbiased image of the world’s events, the Kremlin press service said.

The 19th annual World Congress of Russian Press kicked off in the Belarusian capital of Minsk earlier in the day, with media representatives from more than 50 countries attending the congress.

“During this congress… you will be able to meet with your colleagues and friends again, exchange journalistic experience and discuss current professional challenges. You are well aware of the huge educational, consolidating and formative potential of the media and their responsibility for providing honest and objective coverage of global developments,” Putin said in a welcoming telegram, as quoted by the presidential press service.

Putin expressed certainty that the Congress would be held in a practical and creative manner and will “open the door to new, substantive and relevant projects,” as well as contribute to promoting international humanitarian cooperation.
