Czech to stand trial for Donbass service

Prague, Czech Republic. News is recieved from the Czech Republic indicating the governments wishes to prosecute a Czech national who volunteered to fight with the Armed Forces of the Donbass Republics.

It has been announced in Prague that Czech police have for the first time launched the prosecution of a Czech man who fought in eastern Ukraine on the side of the “pro-Russian separatists,” weekly Respekt writes in its issue to be out on Monday, adding that the man has been accused of preparing a terrorist attack. It is unclear if this mean the charges are stem from his activities in Donbass or what authorities deem a “terrorist attack” there.

The Czech reporters write that it is not clear what exactly the Czech man was doing in Ukraine and prosecutors are declining News Front requests for a response.

Following the soldiers return from Donbass, he served in the Czech military for some time. When recruiting him, the military did not uncover his previous controversial activities in the Ukraine. They surfaced only later when photos with him appeared on Facebook and VK, reports stated.

The unidentified man was a member of the Czech military paratrooper veterans’ club, nor is it clear how many Czechs fought or have been fighting in Donbass. Three years ago, Czech media estimated the number of Czech fighters at up to 30.

The death of Ivo Stejskal, a Czech from Brno, who fell when fighting for the Donbass Republics, was confirmed to Czech Television by his sister some time ago. Czech media has also speculated on the death of another Czech national, coming from Zatec, north Bohemia, who reportedly also joined the rebels opposed to Kiev.

Czech secret police would not comment to News Front on the number of Czechs fighting in Ukraine.
