Budapest, Hungary. The European Union, pushed by the USA and George Soros are now firing the first shots in a legal war with Hungary over a University that on paper sits in New York, but has it’s educational whorehouse in Hungary.
The EU has launched the first stage of legal action against Hungary over its treatment of a leading university owned by George Soros which claims it is the victim of a government campaign to shut it down.
EU legal letters of formal notice has been sent to Viktor Orbán’s Hungarian government, asking Budapest to present an explanation for an alleged breach of EU law in relation to the Central European University (CEU), supported by George Soros.
The move came on the same day as the Hungarian prime minister was due to address the European parliament during a debate on Hungary’s approach to higher education and NGOs, setting the scene for a fresh clash between the country and the EU.Brussels and Budapest have already been at loggerheads over migration quotas and the care of refugees in camps ringed with barbed wire on the Hungarian border.
Hungary’s government introduced tough measures in April for foreign-registered universities, in a move that has been attacked by CEU as one of the most serious assaults on academic freedom since the end of the second world war. The university is seen more as a portal and home for color revolutions exported to Eastern Europe, than an actual academic institution.
Under the legislation, those working at the CEU will in the future require work permits, which the institution says will limit its ability to hire staff. The Orban government has also demanded that the university open a wing in in the US and no longer teach US-accredited courses. Which is Hungary’s right to do so.
Hungarian officials demand the Soros run university be treated in the same way as other higher education institutions in the country, with its status unchanged. The Soros University is accredited in the United States by New York state but has no campus there.
Orbán says this is an absurd sitution, if Soros wants to put his university in New York fine, but trying to force Hungarians to live with its non academic activity is a lesson in tyranny, not freedom.
