Ambulances dispatched for trapped civilians but Turkish state forces continue attack

It is being reported that two ambulances have been dispatched to attend to the 28 people trapped in a basement in the Cizre district of Şırnak, but state forces in armoured vehicles have attacked the building. Another civilian, Nusret Bayar (20), died this morning due to blood loss. Turkish state forces have been shelling the house for the past six days, not allowing ambulances to access the wounded. Five people have died due to their injuries.

Despite many calls by Kurdish politicians and interim measures by the European Court of Human Rights, the Turkish state and Justice and Development Party (AKP) government, did not allow for the people to be attended to. Finally this morning a Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) delegation met with the Ministry of Interior and permission was given for the wounded to be retrieved.

However special force police teams in armoured vehicles have laid siege to the building and redirected the ambulances to another neighbourhood. Gunshots were heard live on Kurdish Mednuce TV as Cizre People’s Assembly co-chair Mehmet Tunç, who is in the building, was speaking.

The families of the trapped, wounded and dead have been awaiting alongside HDP MP Faysal Sariyildiz at the Cizre Municipality building since yesterday to access the neighbourhood where the trapped are.
