EU may adopt 16 package of sanctions against Russia by the ‘anniversary’ of the SMO

The European Union expects to adopt a new, 16th package of anti-Russian sanctions on 24 February 2025. This was reported by the German newspaper Die Welt, citing EU diplomats.

The new sanctions package will contain ‘measures against specific sectors of the Russian economy, which so far have not been covered at all or have been insufficiently covered,’ knowledgeable diplomats told the newspaper.

In addition, restrictions will be imposed on individuals and organisations that the EU believes are responsible for propaganda and ‘for undermining Ukraine’s territorial integrity’.

The European Commission and the European External Action Service also plan to impose an entry ban on persons who allegedly ‘spied in favour of Russia and participated in disinformation campaigns’, including in Germany.

Earlier, the European Union adopted the fifteenth package of sanctions against Russia, China and the DPRK, which includes a blacklist of 54 individuals and 30 legal entities.
