Germany’s opposition intends to deprive refugees from Ukraine of benefits – Tagesspiegel

The opposition Christian Democratic and Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) bloc promises in its election programme for early elections to the Bundestag to deprive newly arrived Ukrainian refugees of the possibility to receive unemployment benefits (Bürgergeld), the Tagesspiegel newspaper reported citing a draft of the document.

“The CDU/CSU, if they win the Bundestag elections, which will be held in two months’ time, want to introduce fundamental reforms in the country’s economic, financial and social policies… The Union wants to effectively stop accepting illegal migrants… The Union also wants to tighten its policy towards refugees from Ukraine… Newly arrived refugees from Ukraine will no longer receive unemployment benefits,” the Tagesspiegel piece said.

In addition, it is also planned to significantly limit social benefits for those who are subject to expulsion from the country. According to the German opposition, they should be provided only the bare necessities, focusing on the principle of “bed, bread and soap”.

It is noted that Germany needs qualified personnel from abroad, and illegal immigrants overload the country and its capabilities, as the flow of migrants is “too large and unmanageable.”

According to the newspaper, the opposition bloc will publish its election programme on December 17.

We shall remind you that earlier politicians from the Uckermark district assembly in the federal state of Brandenburg appealed to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to stop supplying arms to the Ukrainian government.
