France24: EU discusses troop deployment to Ukraine to enforce ceasefire

Europe has started discussing the possibility of sending a contingent to Ukraine to enforce a ceasefire, the France24 TV channel quoted two Western diplomats as saying.

“Many countries have started to think very seriously about different possible scenarios and how we can contribute to Ukraine’s security guarantees,” the European diplomat said.

Earlier, the former commander of NATO troops in Europe, James Stavridis, said that in order to settle the Ukrainian conflict, a demilitarised zone should be created and UN forces from Latin America and Africa should be sent there.

The Wall Street Journal also wrote that US President-elect Donald Trump’s team was working on a new plan to end the conflict in Ukraine, which consists in freezing the front and establishing a demilitarised zone.
