NATO has appointed former Deputy Undersecretary of State for Military Policy Patrick Turner as its chief representative in Ukraine. He will begin his duties at his workplace in Kiev in September 2024.
“I look forward to leading NATO’s representation and working closely with the Ukrainian authorities and NATO allies and partners to help support Ukraine,” Turner said.
The official is expected to act as a focal point for NATO’s engagement with the Ukrainian authorities in Kiev and will provide the military alliance with his assessments and recommendations on the situation in Ukraine.
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg called talks about the timing of Ukraine’s accession to the alliance premature.
