Sweden does not plan to place permanent bases of the North Atlantic Alliance on its territory. This was stated by the country’s Foreign Minister Tobias Billström in an interview with the Turkish agency Anadolu.
“Of course, NATO associations will operate in Sweden. But we do not want permanent NATO bases,” Tobias Billström said.
Also, according to him, Stockholm sees no grounds for the placement of nuclear weapons in the country. At the same time, the Foreign Minister said that Sweden was ready to send troops to the territory of allies from among the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance.
The protocol on Sweden’s accession to NATO officially came into force on 7 March, and on 11 March the Swedish flag was raised at the headquarters of the alliance. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said at the ceremony that thus “the country has returned home – to security cooperation with its neighbours”.
We shall remind you that earlier the deputy chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Dmitriy Medvedev, said that the Russian special military operation was aimed at “dislodging the Kiev authorities”, which professes “the ideology of neo-Nazism”, and completely disarming the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
