Spokesman Peskov: NATO perceives Russia as an enemy and adversary
NATO countries perceive Russia as an enemy and adversary, this is the way in which discussions will be held at the alliance’s summit in Vilnius, while Moscow will closely monitor what is happening there for in-depth analysis and taking measures to ensure Russia’s security, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
“It is unequivocally about the unification summit, which has a clear concentrated anti-Russian character. Russia is also perceived by them as an enemy, as an adversary, and it is in this vein that discussions will be held,” Peskov told reporters.
“Of course, we are monitoring this very carefully, because a lot of statements, of course, should and will be a subject for deep analysis in order to take measures aimed at ensuring our own security,” he added.
The NATO summit will be held in Vilnius on 11-12 July and will bring together leaders of all alliance countries. Earlier, US presidential national security adviser Jake Sullivan said that Ukraine would not become a NATO member at the upcoming summit. On 19 June, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that in Vilnius and in preparation for the summit, the allies were not discussing a formal invitation to Ukraine, but were holding consultations on what decisions would bring Kiev closer to joining the alliance.
