Swedish prosecutor’s office reserves right to classify materials on Nord Stream
Some materials relating to the investigation into the terrorist attacks on Nord Stream may be classified, the press service of the Swedish prosecutor’s office told RIA Novosti.
“If an indictment is drawn up, some of the investigation materials will probably be made public. In general, the prosecutor in Sweden may also decide that some parts should remain confidential,” they explained there.
The government’s spokesman added that if the investigation is terminated, no materials will be made public, but anyone will be able to request them through the court, the police or the prosecutor’s office.
The explosions at Russia’s Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 export pipelines took place on September 26, 2022. According to Nord Stream AG, the accident is unprecedented and it is impossible to estimate the timeframe for repairs. The Kremlin called the emergency an act of international terrorism.
Germany, Denmark and Sweden are conducting their own investigations and do not rule out a targeted sabotage. Swedish prosecutor Mats Jungqvist said last week that he expects to press charges in the case in the autumn.
According to US journalist Seymour Hersh, US divers planted the explosives under the pipelines during NATO exercise Baltops 2022, and the Norwegians detonated them three months later. And, according to the journalist, it was President Joe Biden who decided on the operation. The reason for the diversion was fears that Germany, which receives gas from Russia through the Nord Stream pipeline, would not want to participate in military assistance to Ukraine. Washington has denied the allegations.
