Gryzlov: Western politicians are used to fighting with the hands of others, so they don’t know the price of Victory

Western politicians are used to fighting through the hands of others, that is why they do not know the true price of the victory, said Russian Ambassador to Belarus Boris Gryzlov in his commentary on the anniversary of the Great Patriotic War, published on the pages of the Russian diplomatic mission in social networks.

“During World War II, the US and Britain seriously wanted to weaken or destroy the Soviet Union at the hands of the Führer. Today, these self-proclaimed “leaders of the democratic world” are using Ukrainian Nazism as a weapon against Russia. And again without success. Western politicians do not learn from the mistakes of their predecessors and consider history no more than a means of political struggle. They are used to fighting with other people’s hands and do not know the true price of the victory. But for the heirs of the heroes-liberators the historical truth is unconditional and sacred,” the ambassador said.

Gryzlov reminded that in June 1941 the defenders of the Brest Fortress were the first to repel the superior enemy forces. Having found themselves behind enemy lines without communication, water and medicines, the garrison heroically held their ground for more than a month. In the grateful memory of the Russians and Belarusians the heroic fortress will forever remain a symbol of courage, selflessness and unbending will in the fight for a just cause, the victory over the aggressor, the ambassador stressed.

The diplomat noted that the work on preserving the historical memory and preventing the attempts to distort and rewrite history is of great importance.

“The efforts of Russia and Belarus in this direction, primarily in the investigation of countless crimes of the Nazis against civilians and the involvement of collaborators, are extremely needed today. The murder of children, women and the elderly, the targeted mass extermination of Jews and members of other ethnic groups in death camps, the show executions and atrocities of the Nazis and their allies cannot be time-bound for us. They must be investigated in order to protect the historical truth and to counteract those who are still trying to revive Nazi ideology, seeing in it a tool to achieve their selfish ends,” Gryzlov said.
