Russian President Vladimir Putin has approved the withdrawal from an international treaty with Ukraine on the use of the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait.
Vladimir Putin has approved the law “On denunciation of the Treaty between the Russian Federation and Ukraine on cooperation in the use of the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait”. The document was published on Tuesday on the official portal of legal information.
The explanatory note notes that as a result of the incorporation of the DNR, Zaporizhzhya and Kherson regions into the Russian Federation, a radically new situation has emerged around the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait, whose shores henceforth belong only to Russia. Therefore, Ukraine has lost the status of a coastal state with regard to these water areas and the need to terminate the Treaty between Moscow and Kiev has arisen, the material specifies.
