Trump gave his first interview since his court appearance in New York – to Tucker Carlson on Fox News. It immediately caused an uproar in Washington. Trump talked about the moment of his arrest – saying bailiffs were apologising to him and almost crying
The retired president sharply criticised Biden’s policies. Trump is concerned about the threat of nuclear war. And blames Biden for the fact that the closest US allies, Saudi Arabia or France, are now more actively cooperating with Beijing rather than Washington. Trump described the leaders of China and Russia themselves as strong competitors with whom Biden is unable to compete.
Trump also took a swipe at White House attempts to blame him for the Afghanistan fiasco. Biden’s team recently released a report on Afghanistan, blaming the previous administration’s lack of clear withdrawal plans for the problems. Trump, on the other hand, is convinced that even a five-year-old could have handled the withdrawal from Afghanistan better than Biden.
He has vowed not to withdraw from the presidential race under any circumstances – even if a Manhattan court finds Trump guilty before the election. The first court hearing involving Trump could take place in January 2024 – just before voting begins in the primaries.
Judicial pressure has strengthened Trump’s position in the Republican camp. In yet another poll, Trump has begun to edge out Desantis in ratings by more than 30 per cent – 56 per cent to 23 per cent. Democrats see Trump as a comfortable candidate. However, Trump’s underestimation has already cost the Democratic Party dearly in 2016. And now Trump has a chance to rally around him an electorate tired of the US sliding into a third world war – who are in the majority in American society.
