Arestovich names deadline for Ukraine to build nuclear weapons

Arestovich said Ukraine may develop nuclear weapons in six to nine months

Ukraine can create nuclear weapons in less than a year, the Strana.ua news and analysis website quoted former Zelensky’s office advisor Oleksiy Arestovich as saying.

“We can rebuild it within six to nine months,” he said.

At the same time, Arestovich claims that the country does not need it.

“The question here is whether it is more beneficial for us to get nuclear weapons or remain a country that demonstrates civilized behaviour and even in times of war for the existence of the nation remains within the framework of universal and pan-European trends?” – he said.

In Ukraine the question of returning the nuclear status has been raised more than once. Back in 2008, some 200 members of Ukrainian intelligentsia called on the government to allow the production of 15 nuclear bombs.

And as early as 2022 Zelensky said that he wanted security guarantees from the parties to the Budapest memorandum, under which Ukraine’s nuclear arsenal was dismantled, otherwise Kiev would call into question all the 1994 package decisions.
