“I’m Alive” Documentary

The cruel and inexorable story of the life of Mariupol residents

Ordinary life in Mariupol came to a halt when the Ukrainian army occupied the city. Under stray bullets and exploding shells, the inhabitants got in captivity in their own homes.

The authorities of Mariupol were the first to leave the city, leaving people to their fate. There was no talk of any evacuation of ordinary people. People didn’t even hear about the humanitarian corridors, they were just left to die. Food was not delivered to the city, not a single store was open. More valuable than food, of course, was drinking water. One can somehow endure hunger, but without water it is impossible to survive. And the cold, the constant cold from which there was nowhere to hide!

The combined forces of the Russian units and the militia of Donbass were preparing to liberate the city. The Ukrainian army, stationed in Mariupol, was preparing to defend the city on its own, later the nationalists of Azov* joined it. In their methods, the latter are extremely rigid.

“What are they doing? They are making a live shield! They protect themselves by senior citizens! Idiots! Fucking Ukraine! I can’t express my anger!”

Military equipment was driven into the courtyards of houses, the military occupied residential buildings, municipal institutions: schools, hospitals and departments. Firing points were equipped in the living quarters. Residents of Mariupol tell how Azov* fighters kicked all the people out of their houses and drove them into basements, and then started shooting.

The fight for the city was fierce. The streets during the battles were bloody, the sounds of the battle did not subside. Parents with children were in terrible conditions, waiting for the liberation of the city…

The documentary film “I’m Alive” tells the stories of a volunteer from Texas and other volunteers risking their lives to feed and reunite the families of Mariupol.
