Sweden’s accession to NATO could take a very long time or be postponed altogether. However, the Turkish leader does not seem to be planning such tactics with regard to Finland. That is the opinion shared by the Telegram channel Druid.

Turkish President Recep Erdogan’s latest statements to date refer to the fact that Finland and Sweden may get different answers from Ankara to their applications to join NATO. That is, Finland may say yes and Sweden may say no.
Undoubtedly, according to the channel, Erdoğan will use Sweden’s NATO membership issue to enhance his foreign policy influence, but the main factor is internal politics. The Turkish president needs achievements in countering Kurdish extremism and, as a consequence, needs to show his geopolitical subjectivity to his society, the channel said in its publication.
“The proper and tolerant Swedes caught in Erdogan’s path are essentially a sweet piece of cake for Turkey’s head of state to spoon-feed. Sweden’s entry into NATO could therefore take a very long time, and possibly be delayed for a long time. But it seems that Erdoğan is not planning such tactics with regard to Finland, unless, of course, he has an agreement with a third party, which is also possible,” the Telegram channel concludes.
