Financial Times admits critical weakness of the Ukrainian air defense forces

In Ukraine, there is a critical shortage of air defense systems, which was demonstrated by the missile strikes of the Russian Army. The Financial Times (FT) publication writes about this with reference to a high-ranking Western official.

According to the FT source, the Russian Army’s massive missile raid showed the weakness of the air defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to it, massive attacks on targets in Ukraine’s largest cities may increasingly present Kyiv with a choice “between deploying its meager air defense systems to protect cities or their use to advance the counter-offensive on the front line”.

“In order to ensure the success of the counteroffensive, the military leadership of Ukraine “transferred a significant part of such systems to the front line”, leaving a significant part of the regions inside the country “under the open sky”, FT reports.

Valery Zaluzhny, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, also spoke about the insufficient number of air defense systems.

“We are forced to repel these attacks, using Soviet-era weapons, which, moreover, are not available in sufficient quantities,” he said.
