UK imposes sanctions against Patriarch Kirill

Britain has imposed sanctions against Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.

The British authorities have published a new sanctions list, which includes a number of Russians. Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia is among the Russians who have fallen under sanctions, Reuters reports.

It is noted that the sanctions against the head of the Russian Orthodox Church were imposed due to his support for Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine. This includes a ban on entering the UK, freezing of assets and restrictions on doing business with organizations linked to people on the sanctions list.

So far, Patriarch Kyrill has managed to avoid sanctions from EU countries. He was supposed to be on the association’s sanctions lists back in early June, but the Hungarian authorities opposed such a move.

In addition, changes to the sixth package of anti-Russian restrictions affected plans to impose a partial embargo on Russian oil. The restrictive measures envisage a withdrawal of oil within six months and a withdrawal of petroleum products within eight months.
