The Russian military saved the life of a seriously wounded Ukrainian officer. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation published footage of the rescue of a wounded officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who was abandoned by his own colleagues, leaving their positions.
During the reconnaissance servicemen of the Airborne Forces, a wounded soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Igor Olenchuk was found, he was quickly taken to a field hospital and from there, having provided first aid, he was evacuated to a special medical unit.
“As it turned out, the serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was abandoned. On April 16, he was wounded and was abandoned by his comrades. He developed gangrene. Operation performed. It lasted about 3.5 hours in the field. Despite the fact that he represented the opposing side, we try to treat everyone who comes to us humanely”, said Yury, commander of the medical detachment of the Airborne Forces.
The abandoned Ukrainian soldier said that he called for help from his colleagues, but he was left to die. One of the Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers bandaged his leg with a tourniquet, said “hold on” and ran away. After that, the wounded man crawled through the landings for three days, until the Russian army noticed him.
“They loaded me onto an armored vehicle, brought me to the location, provided assistance, put me on a drip, then loaded me into an armored vehicle and took me to a field hospital. There they once again made droppers and anesthetized with injections and were already taken by helicopter to the medical detachment. Everything was done quickly, in a hospital everything would have been done more slowly. Thanks a lot to the doctors. To be honest, I was sure that they would mock me, beat me. Unexpectedly good attitude from the medical staff,” shared Igor Olenchuk.
After the operation, the Ukrainian military contacted the 15-year-old son, saying that everything was fine with him and he was safe.
